Blown 94 v6 4runner, stick to 3.0 or swap to 3.4?
Ok so i just bought a 94 v6 3.slow manual 4runner with a
rod knocking so instinctively i ran the motor into the ground
now im ready for a new one. I also have a 98 tacoma i
wrecked with a 3.4 automatic and my question is- what all
would i need to swap my 3.4 into the 4 runner? Or does
anyone have a 3.0 they wanna sell for a reasonable price?

All the tech you ever wanted to know about this swap http://www.offroadsolutions.com/34conversion_auto.html
If you already have a 3.4 motor and tranny I would not think twice about sticking a 3.slow back in it.

Sheesh, go with the 3.4. Did mine back in August of '07 and haven't regretted it once.

One of the best resources I've found on it.

3.0 its the tits man screw the 3.4!!!! all original baby!!!! nah i'm kiddin. 3.4 is in my opinion a far superior set up than the 3.0. I did mine early this year and its really been great having a motor that feels reliable, gets better gas mileage, gives ya that bump in power, and basically bolts up.

Swapping the 3.4 and tranny into your Runner can be done. Whether or not the 3.4 will mate to the manual already attached to your Runner, I don't know.
The site the UKMeyers clipped is teh hawt when it comes to swapparoonies.

How much better is the mileage on the 3.4? Maybe there have been problems with the ones I've driven, but I'm not impressed with the power of the 3.4 compared to my 3.0. I have a few minor mods done to my 3.0, but I'd put it against any of the 3.4's I've driven.
I know the 3.4 is a fairly simple swap, but if I were to swap any motor I'd be looking for something with a tad bit more power than the 3.4. Just my opinion though.

I think for power AND longevity AND durability... the 3.4 wins, hands down.

With all due respect, the 3.0 is the closest thing to a lemon motor that Toyota ever put out. The head gasket issue is almost legendary, and while I'm sure your 3.0 runs good, I don't know that I'd be so bold to say that it can go up against a 3.4. The 3.4 are darn near bulletproof, have solid aftermarket support, and can be yoked to above 300 rwhp. (With supercharger and fuel mods, of course).

How long do they last for? Maybe the ones I've driven had some sort of issue? They certainly don't blow my 3.0 away, not anything that would make me want to swap motors that's for damn sure.
From what I can find they only have about ~40 more hp. I just can't justify swapping motors for such a small gain.

Haha, no no I've just driven a few. Maybe I just expected more, I dunno? They didn't feel very impressive to me is all I'm saying. I'll see if I can line my buddies 3.4 T100 up with my 3.0 4Runner this weekend. I'm pretty sure my 4Runner would take his T100, but maybe I'm crazy.
