Having a similar issue, but only with the two highest fan settings. AC switch works (lights) for all fan positions, and idle will bump up even if the fan is not blowing. What I get from this thread is I should look at the resistors first?

Resistor's easiest, but I hope schematic and pics above will help you trace circuit, find where you stop having power, find things.

It is either the resistor or the switch. Try moving the switch around and see if it comes on. The best way to do it is to see where you have power and track it down. Mine was a little different because I had no fan at all.

I have a 94 xtra cab 4x4 dlx. My blower stopped working . I have checked all fuses. Right n left side . U found the relay on right side next to fuses. I cannot for the life if me anything kmthat looks like a resistor shown in other threads on this site. The pics I have seen look like a pjastic piece with 2 spring like pieces on it . IN LOST, HELP!!!!
Under my dash are 3 plastic boxes which I have taken every screw out of and cannot open them. Is that resistor behind one of the boxes????
Is my truck an anomoly??? 1994 thank you

The resistor is in the blower box itself. It will be on the bottom side and goes up into the box on an 88 and would think the same for 94.

A lesson I learned the hard way. There are different types of resistors. Some use a 3 prong and others use a 4 prong. Not sure which years use which type.

I took out every screw it of the fan box and cannot get it open. .
I've tried to get the coil box open and can't . Tried to get the box open underneath the center of dash( under radio and controls) will not open. I've felt under every box and cannot feel any screws or a plate like you show in your picture . I'm at a loss .....

I started the car and the blower worked on all settings. The a/c button was not all the way pushed into connecter, no prob the fan worked . I moved the faceplate to get the a/c button plugged in and now the a /c button is on and the fan won't work , even with a/c button off . Checked all connections, no burning or nothing.
Is there a joke being played on me. Getting tired of this.
Please help with any info .

I live near Rogers Ar, if you were there I could help. lol, Little Rock is a ways off from me. Below is a picture of a blower I took out and cleaned. It has been a while since I have worked on a 89-95 and am a little rusty on how those come apart. I do know to take most of the dash out, you start on the passenger side and work your way over to the drivers side. Check near the drain hole and see if it is that area.

Here is where I worked on one before.
I tried to remove two screws to seperate this assembly and was unable to. The hole that I have the screwdriver going thru holds a resistor that should be in this picture. I have used the resistor out of this assembly to fix another truck. When working on this assembly, be very careful with the resistor that should be here. You will see it when you have yours out. It looks like a large spring, similar to what you might find to your brake or clutch return spring. This resistor has gotten hot and cold so many times that it is very BRITTLE. It will work for a very long time as it is, but just be gentle with it.

I went and looked at my brothers 92 truck and it is to the left of the blower motor. If you wind up pulling the blower motor, there is a screw on the back side of the blower housing, next to the firewall that can be a pain to get out. Dont be surprised if you find alot of trash in the blower assembly. I drops down from the windshield cowl.

For anyone reading this in the future, for 2nd generation 4runners, the relay is basically behind the speaker on the passenger side. You have to unbolt/unscrew the glovebox compartment and that piece of the dash (very easy, 4 screws 1 bolt), the relays are near the passenger side door. I think if your A/C light doesn't turn on and there is no power to the blower motor it's probably your relay. Mine is corroded pretty intensely probably from water damage, not sure exactly what though.

Hi. In post 2 above, there is a picture of the air con relay and resistor pack. There appear to be two black plastic covers on them. I've been yanking on the plastic covers to no avail. Are their clips or screws or something holding them on? I don't want to break them so thanks in advance.

Fantastic post with questions and answers - I went right out to my truck, found the resistor, unscrewed it and it was mangled! Ordering the part, am sure it will solve my problem. Thank you all for the pics and continuous updating. Yotatech saves the day yet again!

Same here. "Lo" on the blower stopped working so I checked here. Pulled out the resistor and sure enough--broken wire on the L pin. Put the new one in today and works perfectly!
