Blew its top!
well my '91 4Runner finally went kaput. headgasket blew externally the other night. came hoem from beach with overheating temps and sounded like a steam train hissing. Now to determine if rebuilding is worth it. 188K on the clock and rusted out doors and needing a paint job...

If you have the 3.0 V6, take it to the dealer and ask them if the "Special Service Campaign" for the headgasket has already been performed or not. If not, have them do it...they'll rebuild your engine while they're at it.

right now I'm looking at buying another 91 that I just found on craigslist with 140K on the clock, totally stock, but in red, great condition. they are asking 2700. i really don't have many mods to mine. 8 year old OPtima red top (still cranks hard!), ARB bullbar but no winch and its rusty, 7 year old AllPro offroad rear coils, 5 year old Rancho RS5000's, Rancho steering stabilizer, 17 inch steel FJ Cruiser rims, manual locking hubs, and COLD A/C after all these years still. If I buy the red one I'll probably swap battery, manual hubs, rims/wheels, maybe the shocks as they don't have more than 12K miles on them. I'll then part out the blue one. This is my 2nd vehicle for beaching, etc. and spends it's life outside in the salt air. Surprisingly the main body is rust free but doors and bumpers are perforated. my frame is in good shape too...
