Bio makes new mudflaps! (DONE, update in OP)
So my rear flaps are shot and after getting yelled at by a friend for chipping his windshield with a ejected rock I decided I needed new flaps. After searching Ebay and junkyards with no luck Im going ahead and making my own.
First up is material. I started looking around for some rubber sheeting type material and found this at tractor supply.
Its belting for a hay bailer, but i found that it would work perfectly. It comes in a varitey of sizes, this roll being 7 inches wide by 5 feet long. There was wider rolls but those cost upwards of $45, with this roll being $24. Is a hard but flexible rubber with 2 Ply construction, so its durable.
Dont use that size roll, its wayyyy to narrow even for 31x10.50's. Im going to get a 12 inch wide roll and try again.
Its definitely some sturdy material. Had to break out the dremel to cut it.
3/9/14
Went back to tractor supply and got a 10 inch wide roll, 35 Bucks.
I cut it into 17 inch long strips, with the top 4 or so inchs behind the stock mounting plate. Heres the new flap compared to the old stock flap.
I just used plain self tapping sheet metal screws and loctite to attach them to the stock plate.
Heres how they look on the Runner.
Big improvement.

Looks good . Got any pics of how you attach or mount them ? I have similar big rig mud flaps and they flop and fly all over the place on the freeway, I need to stiffen them up somehow...

Hit a snag. Turns out, a 7 inch wide piece is too narrow. Tried stitching 2 sections together but it looked like ass. Going back to TC to get a bigger sized roll.
Not to hard to fix though, i'm just using sheet metal screws into the old mounting plate.

Good Stuff, thanks for the post. I was thinking of making an oversized stock looking replica set including the original white 4x4 logo. As for mounting am going to use a copy of the disconnect LowRange type set-up. This will keep the cops out of my hair as
it will look totally stock and hide my 33 1/2", 295-75-16 mud terrains.
Am also running 2" Jungle Flares.
On edit to OP : you can cut the rubber on a band saw at high speed with fine teeth very easily.
