Best surpentine belt and water pump?
I'm replacing my head gasket on my '93 V6 4Runner and while i'm in there replacing a few other things too. I'm getting most of my stuff from enginebldr.com but they don't carry surpentine belts or water pumps. So where is the best place to get these?

If you get them at NAPA be sure to specify their "Premium" belts. They're Gates belts, and are decent. They're all I've used for the past 10 years. I always change them when I change my timing belt, every 70k miles, and have never had the drive belts fail before then. I've heard good things about Goodyear Gatorback belts, but never tried them. Some folks insist the belts from the dealer are the best available. Bando belts are very good, it's a Japanese company but I doubt their belts are made in Japan anymore. Might be, don't know. Autohausaz.com sells them cheap.

If you work for someone who is a pretty big company, go ask your boss or someone if they get a discount at auto part store. I think napa is the only one who does it though. You could walk in to napa and say "i work for so and so, do you offer a discount for em?"

I replaced my v-belt with a Goodyear Gatorback a few weeks ago, and wasn't so sure if the notched design would stand up but, at $15 I figured it was worth a try. After about 100km and a few hours worth of idling, it's been working out great, haven't had to adjust the tension on it at all; no slippage, no stretching (yet). At any rate it sure beats the heck out of the old Mitsubishi belt that was there before. Dunno if their serpentines are anything like their v-belts though.
