Plenty or threads on this subject a quick search will answer your question, but I can tell you an expensive muff on anything I have ever owned is the placebo effect louder seems faster but in reality a good free flowing average muff is fine.

I run an 18" magnaflow with no cat on my truck. Sounds alot less tractor like than a stock style muffler, and is not that loud when cruising around. sounds pretty mean at higher rpms as well.
I would recommend the 18" long version if ur running without a cat, but a 14" if you are. They should be fairly comparable sound wise.

I have a flowmaster 50 for my 93 v6. Good muffler and not too beefy like the 40 series. I originally had the 40 series but it was too loud. Sounds pretty clean to me. No noticable gains since it's the 3.slow

I just did the exhaust on my 2nd gen 3.0. Cut the CAT out, picked up a Cherry Bomb Turbo Muffler from Fleet Farm for 20 bucks. It's 2 1/4" diameter on both ends. 16 inches long. I was able to mount it right where my original CAT was. Then, there is an adapter at autozone that you can mount on to your exhaust pipe to use the existing rubber grommets. It's bolt on. I ran a 45 degree on a slight angle and it comes out just in front of the driver's side "torsion bar." A little loud at idle, but beats the open pipe I had before. I was going for flow and not sound. The 3.0 needs lots of flow.

My cat was glowing red after driving only 30min..That means its clogged and needs to be replaced or cut out? I'm debating whether to gut the cat and run straight pipe with no cat or to just replace the cat? Also my muffler has some holes from rust. I am only concerned about performance, not sound. How will gutting the cat hurt/help the performance? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you for any help!
