Best key blank

Just got the little piece of key out of the ignition. Thanks to a local locksmith. I have been using a half key for a while. I would like to get some new keys for the pickup. The last couple I have got were flimsy and one even cracked. Are factory key blanks still avaiable from the dealer or anywhere else? I would be nice to get an OEM key that has the Toyota letters embossed in it.

Toyota keys are the only ones I'll use in my ignition. All others I consider inferior metals and not worth my time.
Call your local dealer and ask if they can cut a key. Worst they can do is say "no, your truck is too old."

Plus I think I have the key code. It is a small metal tag with numbers. Is its better to get it cut with the key code or the keys that I am using now?

its better to use the key code, u get a better cut then trying to cut it from a key that is worn down i use to work for honda and i would not cut keys from other keys, i would always get the vin and use the key code to cut them, never had a bad cut that way.

Just got the OEM keys and had them cut with the key code. They checked the key code with the vin and everything matched up. The parts guys are astonished that I still had the original key code tag.

Red face

Interesting I have a good friend that is a locksmith and have him do all my lock work.

I use all off the shelf blanks and with all the vehicles I have lock work done I have never had any issues..

Then I guess a locksmith would use a better quality blank then your average key cutter.

To be honest I never thought of Toyota Key blanks.

I wonder how much 25 would cost
