Best Exhaust system?
Ok so I just rebuilt my 22re and bored it .040 over and put and engine builder 261 crawler cam in it so its built for low end and now I am looking to put an exhaust system on it and was wondering what is the best I was thinking about a thorley tri-y with straight pipes going into a flowmaster 40 series muffler and have a turn down right by the cab. would that be a good idea or bad?????? Thanks

that would be fine..but i think you'll notice the cam ALOT more if you go with a full exhaust system..
im hoping to go with a Cherrybomb extreme (louder than a 40 series FOR SURE) 2.5" inlet and dual 2.25 outlet with both pipes exiting in front of the driverside rear tire..
or 2.5" in 2.5" out going back to the stock location (single outlet)
or i could get creative and be like all the 2wd lowered toys and run it out both sides infront of the rear tires..
or be like the Nissan 4wds and run dual exhaust like alllllllll the full size trucks...eff that..i wanna be unique

Any header will move your power band up in RPM which kind of defeats the purpose of a crawler / RV cam.
I'd suggest stock exhaust and downpipe... swedge from the downpipe up to a 2.25" pipe to a magnaflow converter then 2.25" out of the converter to your choice of muffler... and 2.25" to 2.0" tail pipe out.
If you do the header, match the pipe from the collector and swedge down to the converter, minimum 2.25", then 2.25" out of the converter to the muffler, then 2.0" out.

why such a small tail pipe???..
going from 2.25 to 2" is going to create more backpressure..
exhaust needs velocity to flow good..
which is why you dont want a 3in exhaust on anything smaller than a V8 basically..
i would say 2.5" or 2.25" are equally good choices..
i have a 4-1 header..2.5" to a turbo muffler that dumps under the cab..now while i can tell that the cam is there..its not as noticeable as i would like.as in i cant feel the cam kick in, so im just going to go with a full 2.5" exhaust with either a cherrybomb or magnaflow (been listening to exhaust vid's for a few hours..lol) most likely be close to the stock location with a big ole tip..
but however if i can find the proper tips to do my "in front of rear tire" exhaust then i will go with a 2.25 exhaust..with dual outlet (also 2.25) and exit out the side in front of the driver side rear tire..
should sound nice and mean compared to all the ricer's that pull up next to me in the fast lane..LOL..

What size V8 are you talking about? 350? That's more than double the CID of our 22re's (about 150 CID) you know.
Look at the collector size on a 4-2-1 (tri-y) header and you won't find anything all that big, and ... got to consider that the exhaust will cool as it travels so a smaller pipe is acceptable, as long as it's not too small.

what i was getting at abe..is that a BIG exhaust..is for a BIG displacement motor..not our tiny little 4cyl motors...
my 4-1 header has a 2.5" collector and thats the only reason for my 2.5" exhaust right now..
but when i hit the exhaust shop again ima have a magnaflow muffler two big ole tips and have em weld up a trick dual exhaust with 2.25" pipe..
