Best Cam Choice
I been wanting a cam to go in my 94 22re. I am really just after a cam that hits and sounds pretty good but not to much just for sound. Also will it kill my power alot with just the cam and no other supporting mods? Which cam you think is best for me? Thanks

Well IMO such upgrades as in : headers intake maybe an aftermarket ignition. Cant beat a good cam and alittle tweaking of the afm and maybe some headers. You could have meant bolt on as in intake and BODY , Those would be bolt on, But paired with everything else mentioned in this post, im sure you have a bit more pep then normal.

Well I really just want the sound, not just so much the power. I was just asking if I would lose power cause a buddy of mine had a stock 22r and put a cam in it and he said it lost a little power

If I was you, if sound is the big concern I'd just get a new muffle and run wider pipe from the muffle back like 2.25 ID or better yet a cat back with a high flow cat and 2.25" pipe with new muffler. You'll get the sound and an increase in proformance. A cam by itself won't do much and like you said it hurt your buddies performance by itself. A whole new exhuast system with a header would be your best bet. A K&N will effect sound, but keep it clean and check it often, I've seen what pistons look like when these filters are ignores.
A new ignition, well I don't know. With mine it is a little better on the low end but it was added after exhaust, refurbished injectors, cam, K&N filter. It did nothing for the sound and still had to wire it so if it fails I can swap back to the factory ignition. But to do so I'd have to let engine cool to reset spark plug gap, a pita when on the side of a mountain.
A $60-80 cam may sound like the hot ticket, but... Labor to put in. Maybe you goof up the head gasket maybe you don't. Might as well do timing chain, timing chain cover maybe. Head bolts well not good to reuse. Water pump while you got the front of the engine taken off. So now the intial cost of the cam will have increased by the time you get the truck ready to drive again and without the exhuast and intake bolt ons you won't get what your looking for.

If you're looking for a lumpy cam to give you that rumble, you may want to think twice. The stock fuel injection isn't going to like an aggressive cam.
