Basic 87 toyota questions

So for starters im new here, and to the Toyota scene. I have wanted one since highschool. I bought a fixer upper 87 Toyota for cheap last week, owner said the motor has less then 40k since being rebuilt. Its 4x4 with a 22R, 5 speed.

Question 1
I ran it up the road and its running rough, no power, and when I floored it for a second it bogged down bad, let off and it backfired. It has a 32/36 Weber, upon taking the carb off to clean I noticed once it was off the link to activate the secondaries was unhooked because there is a little play in the throttle linkage, you could wiggle it side to side. Not sure it it was like that the whole time or just when taking it off. So im going to add a washer to the linkage and tighten the nut back down to fix that slop.

Question 2
I pulled the valve cover, I rotated the engine clockwise and set the balancer mark to "0" on the timing tab, and looked at the timing chain. Everything look ok here (pics below)? my understanding is the cam gear dot should be around 11:30. Also took a shot of the distributor because it seems really far one way. Maybe ignition timing is off, or distributor off a gear? Do the chain guides look ok? I marked the gear with a sharpie because the dot was under the chain.

Question 3
Tractor supply has 80w-90 and 85w-140 for a good price, and I want to change the axle, trans and transfercase oil. I read the heavy stuff works better for a trail truck, any problems going with the 85w-140?

I don't see the right side timing chain guide which is the one that normally breaks. I suspect it is broken.

Most but not all timing chains have a bright link. Your chain may not have the bright link or you do not have the number one piston at TDC on the compression stroke.

Your distributor should be more centered but looks to me it is to far counter clockwise.

I am not sure about the Tractor Supply Oil, I use what is recommended.

A Timing Video I like Better. Set Crankshaft pulley to 5 degrees.

Easy way to install distributor on Youtube.

I just pulled the cap and its pointing to #1, so that should be TDC on compression stroke. Want to make sure it hasn't jumped timing

The right side guide, is that the driver side? It looks like its there to me, its the pass side that I question, but very hard to get pics of.

Also the previous owner did not have the vacuum advance hooked up, if that makes a difference power wise.

Red face

I would have started with a good tune up first.

If that engine was rebuilt 40,000 miles ago it must have been a cheap job or the snot was beat out of the truck..

In the past I have used 85/140 gear oil in all my Toyota`s

Other then things being a little stiff in those cool mornings around 0 F no real problems

So the timing chain looks fine, I can rule out a jumped tooth?

Just finished rebuilding the carb, is it normal for the accelerator squirter to only squirt in the primaries? mine has no hole for the secondaries. Weber 32/36

Im going to put fresh plugs, wires, and cap this weekend. And fresh gas.
