Bad tps?

I have a cel 71 it's not the egr my truck will idle out to lately 1200 rpm can differ depending on the day nothing to bad I've had my engine to lean because of my k&n filter wasn't on to well. Other than that I'm stumped. I've had the code on for months no real rush to fix it.

Why is it "not the egr"?

Well this is just from a well know Toyota mechanic who's worked on many toyotas over 30 years. We put air in the EGR valve with just a pump killing the engine perfectly. So I'm relying off of his word. He said it worked perfectly I thought I was going to remove my EGR but me being a newb would be interesting..

So what did this Well Known Toyota Mechanic say it was?

The code is an end-end check of the EGR system; by sensing the temperature in the tube conducting exhaust gas to the intake manifold (plenum), your ECM has determined that no exhaust is getting through that tube. It could, of course, be a bad temp sensor (or wiring to the sensor), and that is not difficult to check. http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...00egrgaste.pdf

But what I would suspect is a blocked tube into the plenum. Several (including me) have reported so much "gunk" inside the plenum, that the tube is nearly blocked. While it may have enough flow to kill the engine with the valve all the way open, not enough to warm up the sensor.

The easiest quick-and-dirty check is to put your hand on that tube. I'm told it should be "warm, not hot." If it is warm, I'd suspect the gas temp sensor circuit.
