Bad Ect???
I tried testing my ect on the vehicle. anyone have any ideas. I have an 89 auto 3 vze. I've had an idle issue that I'm trying to track down. I tested and found out the TPS was bad. I put an OEM one on the vehicle and it did help. I've searched the threads and I think the next logical item to check is the ECT. Is it possible to test this on the vehicle?? any help is greatly apreciated. I tested what I think is the Ect, I disconnected the harness and hooked up the OHM meter and let the vehicle get up to operating temp. It had no change in the reading.

ECU you mean? ECT in a Toyota stands for Electronic Controled Transmission. If the truck runs it is not the ECU (computer). Check for leaks on your intake tube and manifold. This is usually the cause of a lot of idle problems.

Toyota also uses ECT for Engine Coolant Temperature sensor. Here is an FSM link:

This sensor block is located at the rear of your intake plenum. A PITA to get to. I usually just take off the hood and lay a 2x6 across the bay to kneel on rather than kill my back leaning across the block.

I think i had the ohm meter hooked up to the right sensor. Correct me if I'm wrong but I should be able to disconnect the harness and hook the ohm meter directly to the sensor. I did this and the reading stayed at 0.fl which I believe is infinite. I ran the truck until it got to operating temp and no change in reading. If I in fact was connected to the right sensor this would mean the ECT is Bad correct?
