i want to get rid of my sliding back glass and install a slid back window, is it easy to do it yourself. i think all i need is the window glass and gasket. anyone else done this?

I wanna get my solid glass off so I can put a sliding glass on. Wish I knew how.

Seriously now, I'm assuming we're talking pickups. And if it's built like the 4Runner's, the frames should unbolt. I don't have a body diagram, so I don't know for sure - hopefully someone will chime in.

i think it just pops out, but i dont want to try until i get the new parts to put in

i just replaced my solid window for a sliding one two days ago. Its fairly easy. What you do is from the inside of the cab you slide a flate head screw driver underneath the gasket until it pops out the outside. Then you take another flat head and do the same about 6 inches from the other then slightly push against window sliding the second screw driver away from first. You do this until it pops out the outside. Fairly easy but watch that you dont break the glass.

To install you put the rubber seal around window put a piece of string on the outside of the seal all the way around the seal.(sounds funny but trust me works wonders. Then you take the window and put it up to the cab from the outside. (need two people one to hold window and other to install) The person on the inside of the cab lines up window while the outside person pushes window in. The person on the inside will grab that string and unravel it from seal which will pull the seal out and will pop the window into place. Once window is in push lightly to make sure seal is set. Thats about it. PM me if you have any more questions.

I was wondering about this too. thanks for the tips, this should be a sticky. I dont want to replace my window, but I would like to repaint the aluminum frame which has peeled. I also want to paint the truck down the road, and it would be better to take as much trim off as possible for a nicer looking job.

yes definitely take the window out to paint. Its so easy to do really it is. like i said take your time with it dont rush taking it out cause thats were you crack it.

and some silicone spray around the gasket while pulling the string will help keep the string from cutting into the gasket too.
