Automatic/Manual Transmission swap
I just found a Manual 5 speed transmission for My v6. I was wondering what all I need to switch the transmission. Are the computers different? wireing harness?
I can get the ECU and the wiring thats in the truck that the transmission came out of. Just wondering what needs to be changed in terms of the wireing harness.
Also I can swap out the 3vze the newer v6 with the 5 speed transmission?

To change the transmission you'll need all the extras that come with a 5 speed. The clutch pedal, the clutch master cylinder, safety switch, the actual shifter (If the auto shifter is in the steering column you may have to cut the floor out for your shifter to fit. You may need to change the instrument panel for a RPM gauge if it is not in your's now. It's a lot of work, but it's been done!

What about the Computer on the passengerside? and the wiring? My truck doesnt have an RPM guage. but im sure theres one in the truck. Were does the signal come from and what do I need for the RPM for wiring and the sensor?

I don't think it has to be changed, but if you have easy (and cheap) access to one from a manual, get it! And yes, there is extra wiring, from the safety switch, and the "clutch start cancel" button

what about the rpm guage? does that come from the motor? Do I need the harness off the manual motor or somthing? Im guessing I need to take the internal harness that runs under the dash and use that instead. but where does the RPM come from. Do I need the engine harness also?

I got some aisin hubs with a good rotors for 25 bucks today.
I want to get the manual transmission. I tore the dash out of the donor truck. Do I need the entire wiring harness under the dash and the transmission harness also?
I cant use the engine harness cause its all cut up.
Please someon help me. Can I leave the wireing alone and just switch the computers? Can I use the part of the harness that goes to the transmission or do I need to take that off of the other truck?
Ive already taken everything apart off the other truck. I just havent payed for this stuff yet.

u dont need to change out the harnesses, i did the swap and u can just get the plugs that go into the tranny reverse switch and transfer switch. i have auto computer with a manual tranny now. u also need rear drive shaft due to the 5 speed being 1inch shorter, also need flywheel, clutch, the bolts for both, here is a link for the wiringi did to make the 4wd work like it should

I can get the transmission plug and the manual computer.
Will the transmission plug directly under the carpet to my orignal harness.
I got manual locking hubs.
I see about tricking the computer into thinking its in neutral and also putting some wires together to get reverse lights. But if I use what I said above do I need to do any of that?
Can I just plug this stuff in and have it work?

no i think u have to move pins in the connector if u try that, i would just leave the auto computer in and just bypass the park nertral switch and wire in the revrse light switch and u will be fine, if u also want your cruz control to work then u would need to just cut one wire and it will work like it should, the wire tells the system if its in park or not, but i have not changed out my computer and have not had any problems with it.

no if u look back at the link i posted it will show u how to wire up the manual trans into the auto harness, it will also make ur 4wd work when u shift it into 4wd.

If I cant do this without using the manual computer then ill just leave it automatic. I dont like hacking the wiring. I would rather use swich the pins around inside the connector.
but splicing wires and putting them together to mess with the automatic computer when I have a manual computer seems kinda pointless.

I dont mind messing with the reverse light wire were the shifter is in side the cab. I would like to use the manual computer and just have the transmission plug into it directly. If ou could help me do that would be great and ill give the guy 250 for the transmission with all the extra's. If not thanks for your help anyway. I appreciate it.

here is a link for the fsm, and there is a elertrical section in it, u will have to see what numbers on the plugs are and what each one says it needs to be for the manual ecu. i cant rally tell u what pin needs to go into what spot with out really having it all printed out and infront of me, but i do know other people have done the swap and have changed out the ecus too.
