Auto to 5 spd swap--different crossmember?
Almost done with the auto to R150f swap but ran into problems. Anybody know how many different crossmembers there are? The one under the automatic wouldn't fit the the new TC mount (mount 1/2" too far back) so I went to the boneyard and got a Xmember I thought was off a MT vehicle but it's the same--hole in the Xmember is too far back for the TC mount. Are these year-specific maybe? This is behind a 3.0 94 4-runner.
Thanks!

I have run into some weird problems like that before when trying to swap crossmembers.
Check out BudBuilt. Not necessarily to buy one, but just see how many different ones he offers and try to figure out what's compatible with what you have now. The man knows crossmembers... that's for sure.

Of course, you could ask him directly. He is probably nice enough to try and help you out and will get a chance to talk you into buying one.

I'm prety tempted by Bud Built, but don't have the bucks right now. He shows 2 different ones, one for manual and one for auto. My trouble is that I think there are more than 2 types because i got one from a manual truck and it didn't fit. Also, in a previous thread about this swap someone mentioned that his auto xmember bolted right up with the manual. Need more info, but I have a couple more junkyards in town to try tomorrow.
thanks!

Problem solved
OK, just a final update for the record: the problem seems to be with my vehicle, not the crossmember, perhaps shifted motor mounts, whatever. I tried both an auto and a MT crossmember from the same year (94) and they all placed the TC mount to far forward. Solved it by doing some judicious bending and stretching, nothing major required. The only difference in the crossmembers seems to be the weight--auto ones are quite a bit stronger, also have spacers so sit about 1/4" lower. If anyone cares . . .

That's strange. When I did my manual swap and a swap for a buddy (91 and 90) the auto x-members were different than the standard ones and we had to use the manual ones.
