ARB Airlocker

Is this a good deal?

I found an ARB airlocker for 300 bucks shipped. It is used and apperently one of the steel lines to it leaks and would need to be replaced. Still a lot of research to do. It has the compressor and all lines and wiring that is needed. The guy took it on trade earlier and just doesn't need it.

It is for an 8". I've done a bit of research but my Rear end in the v6 1992 4-runner is an 8" isn't it? What gear ratio's are they and where on the truck can you find out what I have?

How about the front...7.5"?

Anyway I just got this thing running tonight after an engine swap and being abandoned for 5 years but I'm excited if I can get a good deal to get a rear locker in it for a good price.

What about spline count?

Thanks.

That is a decent price if it includes the compressor too. Unfortunately if your 1992 4Runner is a v6 then I think it has the bastard step child offset rear 3rd member and will not work with a standard 8" ARB. In fact I don't think any company makes a locker for that 3rd member. Look on the top of your 3rd member for an ABS sensor. If it's there then you got the offset unit.

i have v6 carrier ARB in the front and rear of my 4runner....ABS sensors and all. (not that they work or go anywhere)

for 300 bucks even if it doesnt fit you can turn around and sell it after you get the part replaced for at least what your into it... you wont lose money.

Please elaborate?

I've never heard of this before.

The only difference I've heard of is trucks that came with factory 4.88's. The only issue there was the gearing. You can use any normal toy 8" carrier replacement, but you cannot use any other gears than the 4.88's because they are a thinner gear set. So you can never regear a factory 4.88 set up, but you can easily put in an ARB.

$300 is a screamin deal.

Call ARB and ask nicely, and you'll probably get the replacement parts for free.

... and yes, it will work in your truck.

That is what I was looking to hear. And as others mentioned if not I can find another home for it I'm sure. I know my Land Cruiser buddies with the 80's series have an 8" front.

I'm trying to take the advice on here and get a locker first and do the lift second. I was going to go lunchbox in the rear and forget about the front but since I found a good deal on this I figure what the heck. Go air all around if I can find another good deal for a used front ARB Air Locker in the future, I will be all set up with the compressor already. Just cut another hole in the front of the dash set in a switch and good to go.

You may be correct. Sorry for the misinformation. That's what I get for drunk posting.

Been there done that. I'm so much smarter after a case of beer though.

Can you modify that pump to fill a small tank or does it not build enough pressure. Figured it would be great if you could use it out on the trail if your tank emptied and you needed to fill some more tires.

You can use it with a tank, but depending on which compressor it is, it won't have enough oomph to fill tires. The big one is OK, the little one is not designed for that duty cycle.

To really help with tires, though, you need a HUGE tank.
