Anyone get a K&N (or similiar) on their 86 EFI 4runner?

I wanna replace the air box with a mounting plate for my air flow sensor and the cone style filter... But All I can find is an 88 setup, for my year all they recommend is the square filter for my air box.

I have 2 air boxes (1 that came with the truck, that is cut up like swiss cheese under the filter) so it gets a LOT more filtered air.... and theres a major improvement on power/ throttle response. But looks horriblely rigged, and sounds like ass.... And no, I didn't cut this... this was on the truck when I got it.

And I also have the stock one with the 2" air duct that goes into the front grill, that I found at the bone yard, and used to pass the smog test. Looks/sounds perfect... but it seriusly robs the truck of power, 0-60 in 10 days.

So more air makes a nice improvement, but I want it to look/sound decent too.

So my question is, will the 88 setup work on my 86? Or is there a specific part number to look for?

btw, heres the 88 setup: http://store.knfilters.com/search/pr...x?Prod=57-9008

I think you just gotta know if that black plate will bolt up to your mass air flow sensor

I just have the K&N filter with the airbox hole enlarged. I have plenty of power and $$$ in my pocket for other mods. I'd try the $40 air filter first. It may be enough. I had the CIA on another truck and it was a waste of $$ for me. Might just be a personal opinion. I was much more happy with a 'hot' coil and the MSD pack. My mileage got better and the truck ran smoooooooth.

Thats the problem, the stores near me don't stock it, so the only way to see if it will fit, is to buy it... or hopefully find a person that has already done it and tell me exactly what is needed.

DONT use a K&N they let in WAY too much dirt.

Have a look at the AEM Dryflow or AFE ProDry S - these are both washable but non oiled filters.
