Any 22re "Specialists" in Los Angles?

Hey guys,

I have over the last 8 mounths been rebuilding my 1987 Toyota 4-runner.

Long story, but basically I have pulled the motor, use the Engnbldr rebuild kit and head with 261 cam. My friend and I have been doing most of the work. However we did have the block and long block professionally machined and built.

At this point is almost together. We have the block in the car and most everything hooked up. But what I would really like to have is someone who REALLY knows these older 22re's come and help with all of the final hookup and tuning. All the vacuum lines all of that stuff.

I am willing to pay, or trade for parts and possibly fabrication.

Thank you so much guys this site has been a life savor.

Have you met Chef? I think he's in the LA area and knows his '87 4Runner inside out. Check out his thread...he knows "Toyota guru's" all over the place! I'm guessing he could help ya or steer you in the right direction?

Sup Rob? lol... Looking forward to meeting up and slangin wrenches! hahaha.

Just wanna plan out a couple things. Some things we might wanna have on hand.

I'll bring my tools, vacuum gauge and pump, multi-meters, plug wire tester, feelers......etc.

Might want to have on hand;

1. Compression Tester
2. Fuel Pressure Tester
3. Have an available 'rental noid kit' ready with a phone call.(Kragen)

That should be all we need, along with what You and I most likely have, collectively.

LET'S GET HER PURRING!

Mark

PS> Call back asap with the Valve lash info, k? Thanks

Yep! Me too! BTW, get a junk filter for the first run. Not junk, but you know what I mean, lol. You want any microscopic metal particles to wind up in that thing...but you don't wanna buy 3 Toyota Filters for the first 1000... really don't need one for 20 minutes run time on the first cranking, lol. I know it's only a few bucks... but a FEW BUCKS IZA FEW BUCKS, eh? hahaha.

Hey man, honestly, it's my pleasure to help. I'm excited for ya! lol. If you're heading out tomorrow to work on some things, give me a call. If Andy isn't able to come by and work on my rig with me, tomorrow, I'll just head back over and we'll finish it up. We might hit a snag or ten, as today, hahaha...but hey, after waiting several months, a couple days isn't a biggie, eh? hahaha.

Was a lotta fun, man, and you're a really nice guy... made it even more of a pleasure to lend a hand.

Have a nice good rest, ......call when you're heading out there, K?

Hahaha... you're funny, GI, ... I maybe saved a lil time or confusion, but HEY, that's exactly why we were meant to meet...and it's exactly why I've been able to keep mine running and figure out quite a bit... because PEOPLE OFFERED TO HELP! LOL... thank GOD, man,...cuz I'd have really been at this even longer than I've already been! lol. Was my pleasure, honestly... he's a really decent guy, honest. Oh yeah, ...Hey Rob, ...'DON'T SCREW IT UP, mKAYYYYYY?" LOL, hahaha. Had me cracking up, this morning, while listening to something in the news. I suppose I should post the rest in your build...but since you've been here, I guess I'll just do both, eh? lol...

BTW, 85, ....I'm excited, too! Gonna be great to hear her purr!

So, Rob, I'm really interested in that whole Downey Torsion Bar and Fabbed A-arm bizness, lol.... Maybe you could fill me in more next time I'm over there. Don't let me forget, ok? I really don't wanna get ripped off or get something that's not practical for me, and that leaves you being the PERFECT candidate to fill me in! hahahaha.

Anyway, keep me up to date as to when you're back there, k? And don't forget to call Yota, first thing Monday morning, for those Banjo Crush Washers... Get them all, Rob, for the Fuel Pressure Regulator, CSI and Damper... and if you've pulled the Fuel Pump ones while moving that thing or mounting it,.... get those too, k? The latter are at Kragen, no doubt. The others? hmmmmm, lol... I'd just go with Toyota, they're not that much, probably 20$ for all of em... I think it's worth it, considering what I've seen on that motor, how many things need to be 'MADE SURE OF', in order to avoid any set backs on our first start up, ya know?

Also, I, personally, would use the factory Valve cover for that year. It's not a big deal, but they seem to give more clearance to all the goodies in there, if I remember correctly. If you do, I pretty much positive I already have the V-cover Gasket for that Cover 'J' picked up, yesterday.... So don't go looking in that maze if you don't want to, hahaha.

Also, if you're over there, today, and I can't be, creep back under and be sure that the Clutch Start Cancel and Tranny connectors will reach to that white plug-dual-cluster in the harness,....it's hanging in the center of the intake, under the plenum(member what I was asking about?) The reason I say that, Rob, is because my harness is different, much like the one 'J' pointed out, yesterday... It's on the ground by the gray plastic tool cart. That longest wire travels back to the tranny, and on your existing one that we were fixing up, yesterday.... well, it stops right at the intake, coming out of the harness insulation. I'm thinking we might have to solder and heat shrink a nice fresh set of wiring from one side to the other, if it's what I think it is. So, if you do so, make sure you do it at the Tranny side of the connectors... don't try to work from the engine bay-side of the harness... too TOIGHT! lol. Also, take a good look at them, making SURE that they'll connect up. If not, you'll have to cut off the connectors from that harness on the ground I was talking about. I'll get pics for ya if you need it, k?

I know you just wanna get it running right now... but HECK, let's be ready for you to just drive it home, eh?
