AntiTheft devices
So my 4runner is getting to be pretty nice and I would like to protect it since it turns out 1st gen 4runners are one of the most commonly stolen vehicles in my area. So what are some fairly inexpensive/unobtrusive ideas?
I have a grant steering wheel so I've considered getting a quick disconnect.....

On my accord I just take out the ECU fuse. If I ever get around to fixing all the issues on my runner I will probably do the same... Oh yeah you could do a brake lock.

You could take the fuse but they wont know something is wrong till they get inside. You might just piss them off and they will hurt something worse. Good to do along with other stuff though.

Kill switch to the fuel pump. In the "off" position, the truck doesn't start. Just cranks...
Cost of switch, and a whole 30 or so min of your time. Easy.

r security
I once knew a guy in Phoenix that trained pigamy rattlers. they work great. They are small enough to fit one in your steering console, one on your head unit, one behind each speaker, one will fit under your amp and another in your subwoofer box (it has to be ported of course so you can feed them every couple of days or else they start to wander around a bit ) Now you may scoff at this, but when someone started stealing his gas he put one next to the filler cap and when a young punk was found dead from snake bite next to his car the police didn't even question it. It turns out it is imposible to trace a snake. but seriously, I hope someone can chime in with a more reputable answer than mine because i'm interested in this also.

thanks for the errrrr help
I would like not only an anti theft device but also a deterrent. An alarm is great but many time the truck will be parked out of ear reach and during a time I can't rush to it. Are steering wheel disconnects safe for daily use?
I will install a kill switch but that could lead to a frustrated thief or just plain vandalism
also please try to keep the worthless post to a min

Well theres always the club
The point of theft deterrent systems is to make your rig that much more difficult to take than the vehicle next to it.. IMO
I would rather have my rig messed with(to an extent) than taken and never seen again..
There is theft deterrent which would be alarms, etc..
And theft recovery... LOJACK...

Well even if you cant get out to the truck when the alarm goes off it brings attention to the truck and gets people to look. If you go and put train horns on it or something it will scare the bejesus out of the person. lol
