Another 3rd Member destroyed......

Last night, my rear end started knocking, chipped ring tooth. I just had this rear end rebuild with Yukon 5:29s a year ago.......My first 3rd member last 5years+ and the yukon third member lasted a year....really dissapoint. Im running 38 swappers on a toyota axle with a spool. My first rear end went threw wheeling, Drifting, Burnouts, Pulling heavy louds, wheelie attempts, and with the yukon rear end i didnt do any of that, i wanted to avoid rebuilding it again...What gears/setup would you guys recommend for my 3rd attempt.

Gears I sell guaranteed for life.

Typically it's not the gears, it's improper setup.

wow that sucks
I hope I don't have to go through that... at least you were able to pull your 3rd member off!

I tried pulling mine out last weekend but the axles were stuck... I'm not exactly sure why... I already tried one shop and they couldn't do it either (they laughed at me at first saying I didn't know what I was doing, but they found quickly that they were the fools too)... so I'm dropping off my previa at baertrax tomorrow afternoon, hopefully they can pull them out

in my case, I think the shop (out of town) that replaced my 3rd member with a junk yard unit on an emergency repair conveniently "forgot" to reinstall/replace the backing plate gaskets and water got into the wheel bearings causing them to rust into the "tube"

I'm getting my 3rd member rebuilt because of clunking when going into gear... I think it's worn spider gears as I get no noise on cruise... so I'm upgrading to an Altezza LSD at the same time

good luck with whatever new gears you use... if I have to replace my ring & pinion, I'm going to get the nitro 4.30 gears

I'd try getting rid of the spool and get a selectable locker. I've had good luck with US Gear, but I also had good installers.

That doesn't make sense, You shouldn't be roasting 3rd members like that. It seems like the gears were set up in such a way as to make them weak. Maybe have a different gear guy do your new setup-- oh, and Nitro gears are pretty good.

But, no gears will last if the 3rd is setup poorly.

I got a set of Nitro 4.30 gears on the way... I'll make sure to do the 100/500 mile break-in... it's too expensive to roast some new gears just to save 100 bucks on gas!
