I have heard that you can put an altenator out of a mid 90's chevy s-10 with the 2.2 liter engine. I know that the altenators in those trucks make about 130amps or at least that what im told, but my question is has anyone done it? if so please post a pic and tell me what you did. im thinking about doing it to my truck, oh by the way i drive a 1990 p/u with a 22re

You can have your stock alt re-wound to I believe something around 150 amps, but the name of the company escapes me at the moment. Do a search for it. I think TNRabbit had his done, by a company whose name was Boyd something? I just can't seem to remember at the moment. Maybe send him a PM and ask.

They can upgrade the stock wimpy 60 amp to 130 amp, 75 of which is available at idle! I paid $170.00 shipped both ways @ little over a year ago.

There's also a lot of information and help to be found when using the 'search' feature such as one-wire alternator swaps, etc.

Any decent local alternator rebuilder can rewind your alternator and increase the amperage. Look in your yellow pages under automotive -> electrical

Simply not true for the Toyota alternators; I checked every shop around and no one could find a "kit" for it. I ended up shipping to Boyle, and am EXTREMELY happy with the result.

yesterday i put a cs style gm 140 amp into my 91truck i bought the alt. new with a toyota plug adapter it was $170 now it was a pain to put in i had to get a 2" longer belt and gut the bracket and make it about 4" longer but man was it worth it at idle i can have 4 driving lights,electric cooling fan , heater regular lights, and air compressor all going while the voltage is 14.6 not too shabby !!!

well my cs140 chevy alt died last week.The reason the internal rectifier .
when you run electric fan , air,compressor heater,stereo,10 lights,winch , gps this is hell on the rectifier and WILL fry it sooner or later . So i went to quickstart.com they sell the quicktifier 420 box this box mounts in your cab and has 3 wires that connect to the alt . then you have to get some welding cable about 20 ' and make some extended battery cables to hook up to this box it has its own cooling fan .(took me 6 hours for a good clean install) The result is your 140 amp realistically puts out about 14.8 volts and runs about 200 amps and will NEVER fry out this is what ambulances and limos use . interesting afterthought.
