Just bought a 1987 toyota 4runner 22re with NO ac. Any easy tips or tricks to installing ac in this beast? Been looking up parts for it and seems like its gonna be a pretty tough project..

Agreed...I too was looking at getting A/C going on my 90 'runner . But I think it's outside of the scope of my abilities , my very reliable mechanic quoted me about $1,000 for A/C . But knowing him it might be closer to $2,000 by the time it's all added up ...

I think I'm just gonna live without it , it rarely gets very hot here in the Bay Area , and I also wanted to add on board air someday .

My dad is just gonna find another 4runner with AC. To much work to put it in lol. While myself, Im making half doors for ''ac''.

Well thanks for the feedback I may have to sacrifice comfort for my budget however im in central Texas (2 weeks triple digit heat so far) im talking heat index of 108 some days so I kinda NEED ac so any ideas would be great.

To me the hardest part would be to install the evap coil .

It would be the most time consuming

you would just need to get a heater box from a vehicle that has AC.

I know some people have had luck installing used systems but my luck never works that way.

Your runner ain't got 5-60 a/c? Maybe you can pull a a/c off the roof if a rv and make it work?

Well here's the catch, the heater blows hot as all get out and there is an "ac" button it just lacks the parts under the hood (and of course a freon charge to blow cold air)
