Air Box/BATT swap

I see some people on here placing there air filter where the battery was on our trucks/4Runners. What's the benefits of switching the battery out for the intake and vice versa?

You shorten the passage the air must pass through the hot engine bay. Thus, you get colder air entering the cylinders. Colder air is denser, thus more fuel can be burned, thus you generate more power.

like what he said in the first place right, less time its in the piping thus making it "colder", but honestly i cant see it doing a huge difference, unless you had a front mount inter cooler thats when you ll see a difference but thats for turbo vehicles

That's a little hard to believe, I wonder what the temp difference is from the time the air passes through the filter to the time the air reaches the throttle body. The worse thing is to have a heat conductive material for your intake pipes, like that shiny aluminum from K&N.

I've been searching this topic for a couple days now. I have been considering this mod because there is duct tape sealing up the cracked air pipe and I don't want to replace it with another old brittle piece of crap. I figure it would e easier to fab up a tube from the same side the intake is on than all the way across the engine bay.

Also I saw mentioned in another thread, the intake manifold get hot just from being attached to the motor but there are spacers that do not conduct so much heat for the manifold. Maybe that and the air box relocation would make some difference in the performance by getting cooler air to the engine.

Mainly I want to do it for convinience though.
