After headgasket replaced, hestitates on acceleration and timing retards

Replaced head gasket and working through all of the little issues. Thanks to everyone's help, I have cleared all of the check engine diagnostic codes and have set the time to 5 deg in diagnostic mode.

Now the truck idles great, but does not accelerate smoothly. Also, when I take it out of diagnostic mode, the timing actually retards back to around zero instead of advancing to 10 to 14 deg as stated in the FSM. Any suggestions on where to start?

Found my problem. I had to replace some of the injector connectors and failed to get one of the terminals fully inserted on the #4 cylinder injector. Found it by pulling the plug wires one at a time and found #4 not working. Timing still does not change, but truck runs great. Hope to get at least another 100,000 out of her.

TPS IDL disconnected, this sets a CEL in diagnostic mode
ECT sensor, or IAT sensors, giving bad readings.
Pre-detonation or a bad knock sensor will retard.

There should have been a note for things to check, along with the specs if it didn't retard advance when the jumper was removed

Thanks. Will check these things. CEL is not on and just blinks when in diagnostic mode.. ECT is new and working. Had an issue with the connector on it, but that was resolved and cleared the CEL.

I checked and set the TPS last night. It seems to be good.

Not sure what the IAT sensor is, so will have to look that up. Sure hope it is not the knock sensor. Replaced the pigtail, but not the knock sensor and do not want to tear it back apart.

Isn't the timing supposed to advance when the jumper is removed?

typo! Sorry

IAT, intake air temp. It's part of the VAFM, the little nub that protrudes in front of the flapper/vane.
