adding power steering to nonpowersteering 22re?
I havent been on this site in a couple years. I just got a new to me 94 pickup with a 22re. it doesnt have power steering. I have a 90 yota pickup that had a 3vze in it. So i have most of the part i hope. I was wondering how hard the process would be to put power steering into my truck?

If your 94 pick up is all stock, then the steering box will probably swap over from the 90 3.0, but the power steering pump will not work on the 22RE, You will need a power steering pump and mounting brackets from a 22RE.

i had an old 79 with a 22/20 r hybrid and was doing the same thing youi are. i know different truck but same concept. it looked like it would work except the head wasnt tapped for the tensioner bracket bolt. other wise you should be good sourcing 22re ps stuff and swappin it on and the box off your 3.0

as long as you stick to a gear box from an 89-95 you should be fine. 4cyl/6cyl does not matter. The 86-88 boxes were slightly shorter I believe. I managed to cram a 92 box into my 87 but it wasn't easy. It would have been easy if the dang adjustment sleeve on the steering rod wasn't rusted solid though. The rubber coupling on mine was plyable enough to take up what length difference there was.
The lengths are not that far off my best guess is less than an inch.
Don't forget the pulley that bolts to the crank balancer either. it's easy to miss.
All the bracketry and pump must come off a 22r or 22re. My 87 might have already had the provisions in the head before I did my swap. But I cannot say that for sure, as I don't recall if I did the swap before or after my rebuild and I have a new head from EB on there.
Depending on if you grab one from a truck that has the small u-shaped line cooler you might have to improvise on it mounting as I did.
Take all hardware if your gonna grab it as a pick and pull as well.
