A340H Frankenstein Transmission??

After diagnosing a popping noise in my transfer case as being an incredibly loose chain in my 22RE 1986 4Runner I am now digging into replacement ideas and finding out just what I really have in my truck. I know a PO had put a new transmission in the truck as I found paperwork in the glove box on it but it didn't give specs. The truck factory should of had a A340F trans in it but the number on the side of my trans is 30-80LE which is the # for A340H and also it has the 2 transmission pans and drain plugs so it appears they put a A340H in the truck. Which if it weren't for the chain being loose I never would of known as everything else worked fine. What I don't understand is that the H series came with a TC cooler which the lines for came off the chain case however mine doesn't have this. Question is, is it possible to put a chain case from an F onto the H. I know everyone says the H has the integrated TC which cant be removed however I've seen that indeed the TC does physically unbolt from the trans but neither will work without the other. I am planning on ditching the auto and going 5spd but for now I'd like to be able to quick fix what I got to hold me over til spring. I looked under my 95 3.0 T4R which I have no reason to believe has ever had a trans swap and everything from the bellhousing to the back of the TC is identical, just the chain cases are different. Also I was able to look at a 94 3.0 truck that my buddy has and his trans is identical to my 95 and his family has owned that truck since new and its never had a trans problem so I'm 99% positive I have the H series in my 86. I have some pics however for some reason I cant upload them here. Here's a link to a T4R.org thread that has my pics. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/classi...hain-help.html The guys over there are helping me a lot I just figured theres Yota guys here that can voice an opinion as well.

Good luck finding a 340f trans.

Fix what you have. Going to a stick, you are looking at a lot of work.

Problem is that I'm still not sure what I got. I believe I have a 340f chain case on my 340H. So I'd need new gears and chain for my case but apparently no one just sells them. And if I find a junkyard chain I might as well get the whole F trans. A 5spd swap has been in my plans all along. I know it's a lot of work but nothing I can't handle.

If you are up for it; find the jeep transmission.
