A340F delayed 1-2 shift when cold??

I've had the 1990 4runner 22re long enough to catch up on most items the previous owner neglected- but not long enough to know these trucks well. I have a delayed 1-2 shift when cold but when operating temp seems to shift fine- checked oil level and TV adjustment OK. Delayed shift under light throttle but will shift when let off throttle. 131k miles.

A couple other questions:

Is it normal for pressure to blow off when opening fuel cap for a fill up? I would have thought any vapors would be pulled through the engine for emissions.

Transfer case lube- I replaced what was in there- ATF with ATF but further reading suggests gear oil???

Bad shifting when cold is usually the shift solenoids sticking. Don't use gear oil in the 340 transfer case. The tranny and xfer case share the fluid.

Phoned back home to a tranny shop, buddies first guess was ATF as well but I asked him to spec it. A340H takes ATF, A340F as in 22RE takes gear oil- separate transfer case.

Didn't know that. This brings up the question as to whether the xfer case has a shift solenoid in it like the 340H does.
