So my 3vze is acting up when starting. It will fire up like it should when cold(so i believe my cold start injector is working as it should). When it is warm/ has been sitting for less than 12 hours it will just crank the motor over. If i press the accelerator it will fire up so my thought is it has to be a fuel issue. The fuel filter hasnt been changed since i bought the truck(around 4k ago). Motor has 114600 miles on it. Think i might go ahead and do new plugs and a fuel filter just to do a tune up. Anyone have any other ideas?

Cold start injector time switch sounds like. The ecu thinks the engine is cold so it fires the cold start injector flooding engine, when you push the accelerator you open the throttle plate allowing more air to enter engine so it doesn't flood. I had an 87 celica with a bad switch and it acted exactly like your describing, replaced switch problem solved.

Easy to check; after you get it started cold, disconnect the electrical connector to the cold start injector. If it re-starts warm, then brianh is probably right.

Always best to figure out a simple, non-destructive test before you start spending money.

By the way: is your timing correct? You'll need a timing light to check, but doing a "tune up" without checking the timing is just amateurish.

Is it worth buying a timing light or just bring it to a shop? I probably wont have to adjust timing again for the period i own the truck.

Do you work on your own cars regularly? A timing light is a must if you do IMO.

i only service my truck. I have enough other toys to service thought . Anyone recommend a particular brand?

I have this one and really like it. My old Honda needed the inductive pickup, but that feature also comes in handy on all the other cars I've used it on. It has a pretty accurate tachometer built in too, so is a two-in-one for tune up tools.
