95 Pickup 4-wheel drive noise
I have a 95 pickup.......Just recently rebuilt the locking hubs and completely replaced the brake system, within 6 months. When driving down the road, there is not noise at all in 2-wheel drive. When I shift into 4-wheel, I get a fast clunking that gets faster and slower with how fast the truck is going. It sounds like it is coming from the left side, but then again, it could be coming from somewhere else because all I have open while driving is the left window. I also get a grinding noise when braking in 4-wheel drive, but not 2-wheel. It makes me think it's the hubs? The clutch is going to go soon, but it definitely does not sound like the clutch. I just need somewhere to start looking around at some things please....? Thanks!

Thanks guys, been lurking for a long time. But just got a hand-me-down 95 from my dad.......The truck is in great shape besides this one little draw back, and oh, the rust!
Ok, I will pull the hubs and see. I might just order some new ones as there are a couple sets on ebay for $100.......

Is the truck lifted at all? Increased driveshaft angle from a front diff drop was the culprit for a clunking on my truck. Otherwise, I agree with the hub theory. Does it make the noise when youre in 4x4 without the hubs locked?

Flash, the truck is not lifted, it's actually stock right now. I have yet to try the 4x4 without the hubs locked. I will try that tonight and report back. That should be a shurfire way of telling whether it's the hubs or not huh! Thanks!
