I have a 95 4runner 3.0 with a weird idle. I have recently replaced the spark plug wires, spark plugs, cap and rotor, cleaned the air filter, new maf, and cleaned out the throttle body. I also seafoamed the engine for the hell of it too. Before the idle was much worst, however about a week after i did all this the bad idle started to come back. When the truck is in park, the idle drops down to about 200 to 500 rpms, and sounds like a tractor and the exhaust smells very rich. ( smells like the exhaust from my dads 91 chevy 350). I was told by a family friend to replace the TPS, but it was a little spendy and I wanted to get some second opinions on it first, what does everyone else think? thanks!

Valve adjustment needed? Can you pull one plug wire at a time and see if you can isolate the miss? Compression check? I doubt the TPS. No code, right?

every once in awhile the check engine light will come on, but wont stay on long enough for me to get to a schucks or autozone to get a code.

You can pull the code yourself with a paper clip. Or take it to the store to get it read. The system should store the code until you cut battery power to the computer.

it sounds a lot more rough than that. Almost like its got an aftermarket cam in it. I also did some research came across that video and tried that test and the egr valve wasnt it. THanks though
