It could be: 4.10, 4.56 or 4.88.

Tell him to do the spinning tire method:

Jack up one rear tire
Truck in N
E-brake off (front wheels chocked please!)
Mark the driveshaft and the lifted tire
Spin the tire 20 times
Count the rotations of the driveshaft
Take the number of driveshaft revolutions and divide by 10.

EX: 45.6 / 10 = 4.56 gears and so on.

You will need two people, or set up a video camera like I did.
