'94 22re rough idle?!
I have a '94 pickup with 150k miles on a 22re. When I start the truck it seems to run and idle fine. After about a minute or so I notice a miss randomly. No engine codes come on either. I have replaced the plugs, wires, cap & rotor, and checked all the valve clearances, and compression which all seem fine. I was thinking possibly it might be the 02 sensor? Any ideas?

when i read the title i instantly though head gasket, but if compression is fine and you did all that tune up work. o2 sensor sounds like a possibility, but not sure... can't think of anything else

I see by your avatar you play in the mud a lil bit; suck up any H2O recently? Mine did the same thing after I came half a gallon away from hydro-locking my 22re. Turns out I destroyed my AFM; they don't like water. Simple replace and my problem was solved.

I do have a crack in my muffler that leaks a bit. Would that cause the miss though? Would installing a k&n air filter cause a miss at all? Is the AFM spoken of above the air flow meter?

I know you said the light in the dash/engine codes don't come on...but have you checked the diagnostic box jumping the T and E1 ports to see if any codes have been stored previously? Mine was running that way...turned out to be an out of adjustment throttle position sensor, which in turn threw off my timing. After I fixed that and set the timing to factory spec, the misses and sputtering were gone. The code mine brought up was a 41 (TPS), but no check engine light ever came on while driving.

I've had this problem for a while and once an oxygen sensor code came up but I found that the wires had melted on the cat and were grounding on the frame and exhaust and haven't had any codes come up since then. None are stored right now.

Mine is doing pretty much the same as we speak. I was told i need a valve adjustment to fix the compression. Also check your vacuum lines and intake manifold gasket for leaks. Supposeably once i adjust my valve and replace my intake gasket my 22RE will be good. I havent done it yet. I just got it out of the shop after a tune up and it DID help out a bit. but I can still feel the problem. hit me back.

Finally fixed my misfire... put some NGK spark plugs in her. Amazing that that's all it took. I've been putting platinum plugs in her for a couple years and that was the whole problem! Runs smooth now...finally.
