93 pick up, 22re, 2.4L - does not start
Hello
My truck was running fine then parked the thing for an hour. I come back and the truck does not start. It seemed to sputter a little then just cranks as the left over gas was exhausted
1 Checked spark and that is good
2 Started briefly with starter fluid
3 Was hoping it might be the fuel pump relay. Took out the dash and relay was unresponsive
4 Next, took off the air flow meter and the relay does click ONLY if I open the flap. Once I close the flap the relay will not click.
The whole time I am unable to hear the fuel pump run.
I have jumped the FP and B+ ports in the diagnosis hub with no start
Any ideas? I was rooting for it to be a air flow meter issue and not a fuel pump
Wouldn't the issue with manually opening the VAFM and the relay engaging say the VAFM is dysfunctional? Please tell me I'm correct?
EDIT: Still doesn't start even when I manually open the VAFM flap. Just trying to whittle down to find where my problem is

Try cracking open the fuel line on top of the intake manifold. If fuel sprays out you have pressure. Or the return line on the fuel pressure regulator. That will tell you if the fuel pump is working at all. Did you have any problems leading up to this?

It sounds like your fuel pump itself is dead. The fuel pump should NOT run with the VAFM closed, but you should hear it as soon as the VAFM opens even slightly (assuming the key is on). Also, with FP and B+ jumpered, the fuel pump should be running anytime the key is on, regardless of the health of the VAFM or the fuel pump relay (more commonly known as the Circuit Opening Relay).
You also may want to check your EFI fuse.
