93 Cold Start Issues/ Cold start injector removal

Hello, everyone. Im having some lag when i try to cold start my pick up. it cranks and fires but almost wants to stall. with a bit of gas she is fine! then runs like a top. I want to remove my cold start injector and clean it cause i know its never been done. however after i remove the 2 10mm bolts im not sure where to go from there if i try to remove the 12mm bolt at the end of the inector it starts spraying gas everywhere. advice on how to get this thing off without bending or breaking anything?

When I disconnect this bolts that runs a part to the fuel line, it starts spraying fuel. If you don't disconnect from here? How else do you get the cold start injector off? 93 22re PU 175xxx

I've just done this on 6 cylinder and bottom line there's no way to avoid some squirting of gas. To do complete injector work I disconnected battery ground, negative terminal, pulled fuel relay, fuse, and I loosened gas cap. I also think doing this in morning assuming truck has sat, will minimize fuel in lines. Have a small towel or whatever surrounding bolt as you loosen to catch gas. As far as any other 22re stuff to do, I don't know.

^^^ yep.
open gas cap, pull fuse, then very little should come out.

That's the correct bolt to disconnect the CSI. Yes, like ^^^ need to disable fuel pump in order to remove fuel pressure from the rail.
ON the 22RE, there is minimal fuel remaining there when engine is off.

you don't need to loosen the fuel banjo bolt. you can gently back the CSI out from the plenum with the fuel line still attached. should allow you to determine whether the injector is filthy/carboned, or relatively clean. you can even observe whether it functions in this manner, by having a friend turn the key to start while you observe whether the CSI sprays fuel, or dribbles fuel, or does nothing.
