93 4wd front disk

I need to change the front disks on my 93 4wd. I cant find any good and consistent information to replace them. How do you get them off to swap out?

thanks

YouTube has a pretty good series of videos, search for "1994 4runner front brake job" and they should come up.

Thats pretty vague. Do you mean the rotors? Or the pads? Either way, what you are looking for will be in here: http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-buchanan/93fsm/

I'm usually pretty skeptical of You-tube videos, but if you're having trouble following the manual, then this one isn't too bad:

Perhaps get some help if you can`t figure out how to remove your rotors or have the correct tools

The main problem im having is the understanding of the manual locking hub. How to remove and not screw it up. then do i have to remove the entire spindle from the upper and lower BJ? Ive read that they bolt on from the rear of the spindle. but i have also read that it just slips off. WOuld just like some clarifications.

The only tool i would not have would be the large nut on the end of the cvd. and yes i have the aptitude to replace them. I just need to know what im getting into so not to spend un-necessary monies.

1. make sure the hub is in "FREE" position;

2. take off the 6 (10 mm)* bolts on the cover; remove same;

3. take off the 6 (12 mm)* nuts/lock washers off the studs which hold the locker body onto the hub;

*I believe

4. get a brass punch** and hammer to loosen up cone washers that are on the studs that get pressed into the holes after the nuts you just removed get tightened; spray them w/ penetrant like PB Blaster to help them come off and be patient, they will come off;

**be careful because locker body is aluminum, hence the brass punch...

5. once all six cone washers are loose/off, remove locker body off spindle;

6. remove gold bolt from end of axle shaft;

6. remove c clip that is in groove in front of bearing adjustment nuts;

7. remove axle bearing adjustment nuts with a 54mm or 2 1/8" socket;
have to remove the retainer washer also between the two nuts;

8. remove 17 mm (I believe) bolts from the steering knuckle that holds the caliper onto to the knuckle;

9. remove caliper after you have removed the hard brake line from the caliper so you CAN remove the caliper;

10. remove rotor from the spindle and there you have it.

Now you can check the bearings and races; either clean and repack or replace with new.

To get you started, here's a few links....

Any other questions, let me know....

This is a decent set of videos on what you'll be doing. You can use the video or the instructions daved5150 posted to remove the hub/rotor assembly. From there, you simply remove the lug studs and pull off the rotor -- see video #2 in the link and it's around 3:20 when they remove the rotor itself. Either way, having a repair manual (Chiltons, Hayes, etc) or the actual FSM available will help with most of the repairs on our rigs.

Good luck!
