93 4runner transfer binds...

Need some help guys, I recently purchased a 93 SR5 4Runner w/3.0 & 5-Spd. Previous owners had Grenaded the front differential, I purchased a nice used unit and installed it today. The new diff works well, but now when in 4wd "on dirt" the tires (front-back) seem to want to drag, they will continue to "skip" drag even with the clutch engaged. Once taken out of 4wd no problems. I have lifted the truck completely off the ground and in 4wd (running) and does not produce any thing noticeable going on...) Even through the complete gear ranges 4L-4H and 1st.-5th. gear. Any input to this matter would be greatly appreciated. The fun of buying used trucks right?

You didn't match gear ratios. It has nothing to do with the trans or case. You will need to A. get a matching ratio diff for the front, or B. Pull the cover off the front diff, count the teeth, and get the proper matching rear diff.

Well from the factory code label on the door I had a 4.56 I confirmed this by counting the ring and pinion, the new one is a 4.88 AT/Gears figured close to try... I did make the purchase of the rear 3rd. member at the same time...)

Here shortly I'm going out to the shop and count the rear 3rd. member to see if they correspond. I know from the older gentlemen that the truck had never been changed, It was totaled from the side...)

If you have one with a 4.56, and the other diff with a 4.88, there is your problem. You have to have the exact same diff ratios.

Well guy's just finished dropping in the 4.88 rear 3rd. member and took it to the desert and rolls out just fine in all ranges...) Being I just purchased this truck and never able to try the 4wd. (being they Grenaded) the intermediate shaft clutch hub assembly on the A.D.D. Really did not know how much further I needed to go. Later on I will rebuild the front assembly for an extra to have on hand. Got lucky being I only paid $125.00 for the front diff/rear 3rd. I installed new half shafts at the same time. Well guys I Thank you and it's great to have friends you can count on! and Thanks for having me aboard...)
Steve~
