93 4runner stalls at idle
Forgive me if this post should be in the newbie section...
So I'm on a road trip down Baja, driving my new-to-me 93 4runner (auto, v6 3.0) Today we drove about 300 miles give or take a few, and have the thing loaded moderately heavily with gear. Got about 16 or so mpg during the drive, with load and a/c. But, here's the problem, when I was idling in the hotel parking lot waiting for my friend, it stalled! What the frack? It turned back on with no problem, I parked it, we checked into the room, and i came out and started the truck again maybe 20 minutes later. It ran okay for about 30 seconds in park and then stalled again.
I just got a new alternator installed less than a week ago. The dealership did a prepurchase inspection before I bought it and everything passed. Seriously, all they said was that some fluids were dirty and the air filter was black. (I changed it and it was hardly dirty... they also couldn't figure out the sun roof close button so I don't know if they can be trusted). The battery charge light has been high, it smogged fine, oil pressure maybe a little low though oil level is fine... not sure what the issue is. Haven't checked tranny fluid yet, will do in the am. Maybe EGR system?
I would REALLY appreciate any advice you guys have. It occurred to me that if I'd stalled on the drive down that windy road which has no shoulders, we'd be crow pickins right now! There's a mechanic across the way, so I can go in the am if I need to, and I'd like to be prepared with some idea of what might be going on. Then I can translate what I need to before I go. I'm in Guerrero Negro if that means anything to anyone.
Let me know if you need to know anything else.. Thank you!!!

did some testing
I just went out and did some tests---
When it starts cold, the rpm's are at 750. It warms up and rpm's drop to 500. I turn on the a/c full blast and it goes up to 750. I turned off the a/c and tapped the power brakes, and the rpm's drop and drop to 250 and then it stalls Poor baby
I'll continue to search threads for info. Until then

sorry, little more info
We drove a bunch of hills today. If you've driven down Baja you know what I mean, lots of ups and downs south of San Quintin. It seemed to shift smoothly, the usual 3.slow power going uphill. I did turn o/d off a few times and hit the ect switch a couple of times. Toward the end of the day, it wasn't downshifting as much as I would have liked, but I figured that's how automatics roll, especially with a load. Hope that helps

well, warm RPM's should be around 750. If it's idling warm at 500, maybe the idle speed needs raised?
(considering the idle speed is set with the engine warm and spec is around 750?)
