92 toyota 4runner sr5 wont shift out of first until redline
Hey guys i just bought a 92 4runner sr5 4x4 i bought it for $1000.00 not running, i put a fuel pump in it and got it going, but when i drive it, it wont shift into second gear until 5500 rpm, i changed the fluid and did an ohm reading on the solenoids, and applied voltage to them they all activate. Im not sure what else to check, do u think i need a new trans? any help or pointers will be appreciated

Check the TPS. If your TPS is telling your ECU that the throttle valve is open more than it is, your ecu will delay the shift point to a higher rpm.
Eta: Actuallu a bad tps would cause all the shift points to change, not just first.

Can you get it to shift from 1-2 by manually shifting from L to 2?

no but i know that number 1 solenoid is energing, so if i energize number 2 it should give me 2nd gear, if i manually shift it into second gear it engages about 4500 rpm instead of 55000 rpm in drive

sorry i ment 5500 rpm, anyways i was testing the tps, i back probed the vta wire and checked the voltage, its 3.8 volts no matter what throttle angle im at, shouldnt it vary from up to 5 volts? i know u are supposed to ohm it but the damn thing faces rearward toward the manifold and i dont feel like pulling it off

Does the truck have the right alternator? Theres a specific alternator for a manual and an auto. If you have a manual alt in an auto truck it may have this problem. Checked fluid? While running? Is it full? Pour some lucus oil stop slip in there. It may help. I've used in on alot fo trucks where valves in valve body were hanging up. Check kick down cable.
