92 4wd p/u speedo wiring question
I have 92 4WD p/u with a five speed tranny, and 22RE, recently purchased. The speedometer and odometer are not working. Here's the problem. I have found the speed sensor in the tranny, but there is no wiring attached to it! The only wiring harness going to the trans has what appears to be the wiring for transfer case indicator and wiring for the O2 sensor. I chased the wiring back to the engine compartment and found a wire that has been cut off on the passenger side of the motor just above the starter. At this point in the loom there is a wire going to the starter, the cut wire, and the wiring running to the t-case. Can anyone tell me if this is where the wiring for the tranny speed sensor is supposed be? I'm a little anal about things working and would like to fix this instead of using GPS or other work around. Thx.

The wiring for the sensor starts all the way back at the case, and disappears into the harness shortly there after. If follows the same path as the reverse and 4WD plugs, in that same section of harness. Its a 3 wire plug, so you should be looking for 3 wires. If there isn't 3 wires, then someone has changed the wiring harness. Typically what that means is someone swapped an 89-91 engine in, and used an 89-91 harness. Those years were a mechanical speedo, which would explain the missing plug.

Perfect! The previous owner swapped an 89 motor in it while the 92 motor was being rebuilt. It still has the 89 in it. I have the 92 on a stand, but it doesnt have a harness! CRAP!

I have actually talked to the guy that did the rebuild and the motor swap. He said he had to change the MAF and the ECU. He thinks he still has them and is trying to locate. I hope he is able to so that I can put the fresh motor in soon. Thanks for your help. If there is anything else I should know about putting the 92 motor back in from the 89 I would certainly appreciate the advice.

92 P/U speedo wiring question
The po of my truck swapped out the motor ('92) for a motor out of an '89. I believe the '89 had a mechanical speedo, thus no wiring for the electronic speedo in the '92. I have the original motor (on a stand ready to be built to the hilt) and the wiring harness for it. The ECU was swapped for the '89 as was the MAF. Can anyone help me locate the wiring off of the old harness, so that I can reconnect the speedo on the truck. Many thanks for the help.

Speedo wiring help needed - 92 P/U
The po of my 92 pickup swapped in a motor out of an '89 pickup prior to me purchasing the truck. I have the original motor and complete wiring harness (I think). I was told the only things that needed to be changed to make the '89 work was changing the ECM and MAF. However, the speedo does not work. After reading on here, I believe the '89 speedo was mechanical, not electrical like the '92, so the wiring harness in it now has no provision for the speedo. Can anyone help me locate the portion of the wiring harness off of the '92 motor so that I can get the speedo working again? I am planning a complete monster rebuild of the '92 motor, but not until later this year. Thanks in advance for your help.
