I've never a Transmission swap and i'm not looking forward to it! I do not have the money to put it in the shop so Could someone give me advice on where to start when taking it out?

Rent a tranmission jack, will make it MUCh easier.

Auto or Manual?

Pull drive shafts, dissconnect linkage/shifters/ un plug stuff, unbolt it from engine. Use a long 3' extension and a swivel for the top two PITA bolts. Then unbolt the crossmember, pull the transmission back and lower 'er down.

youtube search 4runner tranny swaps...watch some videos...search threads here.

A harbor freight 60-80 trans jack will be a good investment for starters. Red and white one will work.

How you fixed on tools? Buddies to help and not just stand around and drink your beer?

Its a job. It it a stick or auto?

Do you think the 450 Lb Jack will work from harbor freight? And i could always just ask around too see who has a transmission jack. Is there anywhere i could possibly rent one? I called autozone and they said they only rent tools and not transmission jacks?
