I removed my egr valve and my engine started up. i power washed it and now it cranks and sputters but doesnt completely turn over.

I now replaced my spark wires, distributor cap and rotor and my spark plugs are good.

Any ideas??

I have spark. And it seems like im lacking fire. It cranks and sputters like it wants to turn over but there is something that isnt there to complete it.

it doesn't fire/start. It has new dist. cap, rotor, wires, and the spark plugs are fairly new.

Are you getting spark at the plugs?

Remember, engines need 4 baic elements to run. Fuel, Air, Spark, Timing.

Start with the basics.

ALmost every time I have seen this it's been water in hte distributor. There is some spray you can buy at Pep Boys, etc that is made to dry out electricals.

WD40 will also dry it out. Did you pressure wash it with the motor running. Check you air filter. If its wet replace. If its wet you've got water in your motor. Your mass air flow sensor will be wet and need to dry to give accurate reading to computer. A blow dryer can do this put keep on low setting. If so, remove plugs. Turn the engine over with spark plugs removed. This will push water out of heads through the plug ports. Also have oil changed if thats the case. Check your coil for voltage, make sure its still putting out like an old girlfriend. replace everything and try again. Good luck.

PS. Does it at least look clean? How well did it work? I am close to needing to pressure wash mine as well.

I've got spark

How do i know if there is water in the distributor?

i pressure washed it with the motor off. Where is my coil? Could it be possible if my ignitor got wet?

Haha yeahh it looks cleaner than it did before. but before it was caked with mud.

Check the fuses too. I had the same problem where I had spark and changed everything.... dang fuse....

Well dont i fell pretty stupid. I had a little water in the plugs and it turns out my wires were set up backwards. After i quadriple checked they were backwards. So i just got the water out and fixed my wires.

I did that on my old 65 Mustang, except the Mustang started. I drove down a hill and noticed it misfiring, so I turned around and going back up the hill and it started misfiring much worse struggling to get up the hill, then pulled an "Uncle Buck" and made a bang that sounded like a gunshot and blew something metal out my exhaust, I heard it hit the street.

I've had some of those "Damn Im an idiot" moments too...

When I built my first VW motor, I had the rotation on the dist cap backwards and the engine RAN!! Not well of course, but the dang thing ran. It would build up so much fuel in the exhaust that every ten seconds or so I would get a huge bang and small flames would shoot out of the pipes. It was awesome.
