89 pickup 22re won't start - randomly?
ok, need some help. We have replaced the starter, battery, battery cables, neutral safety switch - don't know what else to do??
It just won't start sometimes. It's a manual, so I can roll start it, or it will start if someone gives me a jump.
I'm at a loss here. What to try next?

Read this, and see if it applies to your truck.

Oh, I almost forgot, do you have a good ground wire going to your motor block?

well, that was a great story, but my truck has never had an alarm, so that's not it. I usually do have the door open anyway when trying to start.
One question, when we replaced the neutral safety switch yesterday, it just screwed into the side of the transmission & the end that sticks out looks like it should have something plugged into to it, but the old one did not, so we didn't plug anything into the new one. Are we missing something?

We have 2, a 89 pickup and a 85 runner. What we found is that the wire coming from the ignition switch that sends 12v to the solenoid is dropping voltage. It could be the ign switch or poor connections in that circuit. So rather than replacing till I hit it I used that wire to control a relay I put in line, the relay when closed, sends batt voltage to the solenoid. I have got to do the same thing to my runner, it does it too. Since this mod the truck has never failed to start. btw we tried batt cables, 6 starters, and all kinds of stuff.. hope this helps. if i can help any more lmk
