89 22re resonator air requirements

I'm trying to get the Supra stuff installed on the 89 and there is a resonator that goes to the PAIR valve and it hooks into the air box. On the 86 it wasn't there so I didn't need to plumb it in. On this one the small filter that I bought to use on top has a much smaller hole than the hole in the top of the resonator. What I need to know is how much air does the resonator need? Can I cut the air flow to that thing by half and still use the filter I have without messing something up or do I have to let it breath out of the full 1/2" hole it has?

You don't really need the resonator. It's just a muffler to keep the noise from the PAIR reed valve from making the intake too noisy.

what would happen if you completely stripped all of the PAIR system off?

The ecu's calibration for dealing with the air from the PAIR and how it affects the O2 sensor might be off causing the mix to go a little lean (no O2 from the pair would appear rich, correct?). Other than that and the legality of removing smog equipment (varies by locale)... probably nothing.
It doesn't take any HP to operate the thing so I don't see much of a benefit to removing it.

Well you had what I was looking for. You're like a digital hooker, I'll take what I need and leave you complaining.

Thanks Abe. I feel better about putting a smaller filter on there than what it seems to need.

mmmmkay, I was just curious, because of my upcoming motor swap was wandering if I would clean up some clutter easily
