88 Toyota pickup, Yukon 4.88's

Hey all, I was wondering if picking up a yukon 4.88 ring and pinion set for front and rear of my 88 4cyl would be worth it. I'm running 33x12.50s, and not going any bigger.

I'm not very experienced with anything involving thirds besides replacement so I was also wondering how hard the swap would be.

yes, very worth it. 4.88's are great for 33's.

4.88s are a good match for 33s. Just don't do like I did and regear both diffs with 4.88s, only to realize a couple months later that you should get 35s. Oh well, time to regear again.

As far as installation, putting in a new 3rd is easy. Setting up new gears isn't extremely difficult, but it is time consuming and requires specialty tools that most people don't have. It's probably better to pay someone else to do it.

Shortly after I posted this I realized that I have a friend that can do it. So it may be a near future project. Debating an exo-cage first though. Either that or I want to drop and SVO motor in my ranger and tweak with the beams a little. Really hard decisions!
