88 4x4 ebrake / parking brake issue
My ebrake / parking brake it fully extended and will not go back in, I pulled a little too hard one day, so now what? Any instruction to restore a non working ebrake would be great. The good news is the wheels are not locked at all, I'm driving with two bricks for brakes for now, used on hills, so did I snap a cable or connection I wonder?

The search function is your best friend here on forums like this one. If I find the thread I first used way back when I will send it to you. What probably has happened to you is that the wire broke and is now jammed into the lever housing, preventing the lever from going forward.

Harrisburg PA, thanks for the offer to help, that's very kind, Allentown, is a bit of hike for good old FrankinYota. He would get too hot under the collar to drive that far lol.
He needs some work before I take any long trips, starting here with the ebrake, then ...

Mine actually busted the other day, so I have the same job ahead of me. I think it's the front cable like wyoming said but haven't looked yet. Funny you say you are from Harrisburg, I have some old friends down there...let me try to find that thread for you.
Here's the thread here and a few others: here and https://www.yotatech.com/members/4re...-anything.html. Good luck.

So it looks like a broken cable, the rust devil got me on this one and here I just thought I was super strong, kinda reminds me of the old days when we used open cables and hand made bars to stop go carts lol
So I go searching for a part

I don't think toyota will sell you just the cable with out the sheath and other bits. Most people don't have the equipment to attach the upper end, it's "cast in place" from lead and what not. Could probably get something from a custom shop but it's not going to be any cheaper than a mass produced part. You could probably rig something up with some cable clamps but i'm not sure how much cable you have to work with on the rear connector there.
Anyways yeah that is cable #1, the front section.

I am a cheapscape and get mine from the salvage. I remove the brake sensor using a 12mm wrench and that will let the lever slide far enough to get the slug out of the ebrake shaft. It usually breaks near the firewall from my experince. Then I push the two tabs to the firewall and that will let the shaft slide just far enough to remove the old slug and install a new cable.
Sensor removed to allow the lever to slide far enough to get broke cable out and new cable in.
You will need to push both tabs at the same time toward firewall to let whole handle/shaft to slide far enough out for the slug on end of cable to be exposed like picture above.

Life got in the way on this one, so I'm bringing this up from the dead again. Working to get the 88 rig sea worthy again. You still available?

Yeah too many other things got in the way and now I hate to see it go to dust,
Now I just need a water pump repair or replacement, leaks coolant fluid fast, spraying from the water pump I'm fairly sure. It could just be a gasket, may have to find a gasket kit or see what a new pump and gasket costs, if it's not just a gasket?
The ebrake is still broke and it has not been inspected for 3/4 years. It's now starting to rust a little and maybe time to get it back in action before it's beyond repair.
After some priming, a little tweaking it runs great, these little trucks are something else. The little Toyota still lives. Runs like a top and still not in bad shape...
