87 turbo tranny non turbo engine
Hey guys
I have an 87 4Runner that I thought was DLX as it has no SR5 badges and a non-turbo EFI 22re in the bay. But the transmission is a 5-spd with turbo components. Mostly, the release bearing is in question as the replacement part visually matches the turbo only listing. So I have a truck with a non-turbo motor running turbo tranny components. What's the deal with that?

OMG... You've got the dreaded swapped in R150-R151f!!! What to do!! .... WORRY ABOUT IT!
It kills babies too...
BFD... You had a PO with some sense... My guess is he got a R151f bell housing and either swapped in a R150 or R151.
What transfer case it has will tell you if it had the R150/R151 or not. B/c 4Runners never came with them. 4Runners were AT only.
Got to 4wire.com and look through the Toyota specs... I'm too tired to post another link that should be common knowledge.
Again, if the transfer case is chain drive, it's a V6 5 speed with a R151f bellhousing.
If it's gears, and has a really low 1st gear it's a R151f.

After reading the post another 100 times I think I get your problem...
You don't have to run a Turbo clutch if you're not running a Turbo... I don't think it will hurt anything though... That doesn't make sense b/c the Turbo has considerably mo powa. Just get a standard clutch or run the part # off the old one if you can, if it worries you that much.
Any 22RE clutch should work... I forgot all my clutch specs.
Clutch diameter and matching the pressure plate and splines are the biggies...
ala LC engineering, the V6 is 9 1/4 and 4 cyl is 8 7/8ths.
The splines must be the same in V6 and 4, so just go get a 22R clutch... or call LC engineering/ Marlin/ Advance... and see what they say
You can compare parts you know.
Wow... holdup that's wrong... AGAIN, ABOVE IS WRONG!!!!
LC and Napa list the RTE as a 9 1/4" clutch...

The 22R-TE and 3VZ-E clutches are the same, and are bigger than the 22R-E.
I've never seen an R150 or R151 before, but if they're anything like the R154, they have a pull-type clutch right? (IE: the slave cylinder mounts behind the bellhousing, pushing the outside of the fork towards the front of the truck, which pulls the release bearing)
Which is complete opposite of a W series, which pushes the release bearing into the flywheel to dis-engage.
