I'm a fan of automatics mated to turbos. Mash the go pedal and whoosh. You may end up with less power at the wheels but not having to deal with the turbo surging and coming off boost when you shift means overal better application of power to the wheels. And with a manual, if you miss a shift... game over.
I had an '84 Chrysler Laser turbo automatic and it was quicker down the street than my friend's 85 Daytona Turbo Z 5 speed. Everytime he shifted the turbo lost boost but I had boost as long as I held the pedal down. Overall, he had a higher top speed though since I still had a slushbox without a lock-up converter.
Come to think of it, that's basically why the Buick Grand Nationals, in particular the GNx, were quicker and faster than the Corvettes- the GNx was automatic only.
Now, having said that, sounds like you did well.

I'm going to keep it stock for a while. I would like to lift it tho and put some 31's on it.
The turbo is awesome. Brand new 40,000 ago along with the motor conpletely rebuilt. Its puttin out 14psi of boost. I didn't kno the fabric said turbo. The only thing that labels it as a turbo is the turbo sr5 in the steering wheel and the gauges. I want to find the turbo badge that goes on the tailgate tho. I think that would be awesome.
Also plan on putting an alarm system on it. Maybe an auto start feature and a turbo timer as well.
Thanx for the comments !

I had a turbo 4runner for a little while, red on red. Kind of slow on the bottom end but the turbo helped out tremendously on the mid/top. I sold it after a couple months (stupid!, but I was young then). Yours is in way better shape than mine was also. Good find!
