87 4Runner Brake and Charge light on, alternator bad

My brake and charge lights came on a couple of days ago (of course, on a day I decided to drive my truck to work). I made it there and back thankfully, even though I had to use the lights both ways.

Yesterday morning I checked to see if the alternator was charging and it was not. So, reman Duralast from Autozone, new lower radiator hose, and coolant cost about $100, and the light is off.

The problem is that I have fluid all over the drivers side of my motor and I suspect that is what killed the old alternator. I believe that it is from the PS pump, but there is so much oily fluid everywhere I cannot tell, even after a couple of cans of gunk. So, I have read where Wabbit says the pump seal kit is an easy deal, and starting at the top makes sense, so I ordered one from Rockauto. My question is where do I get the hoses to and from the reservoir? I have three hoses involved in the power steering. One is at least part metal, it appears to be in good condition. The second is just plain line, no formed curves, and I just bought gas line for that. The third one is the shortest and goes directly from the reservoir to the pump, and has two or three formed curves in it, I cannot find this hose anywhere. Does anyone know what it is called or where to get one?

Some hoses/parts you just cant get anywhere else but the dealer. I order quite bit from www.toyotapartseast.com Then there are a handful of parts even the dealers cant get that you have to use boneyard parts.

I would never use a boneyard high-pressure hose. What's the point? You can take any hose with formed ends to a hydraulic shop, where they will cut off the ends and put in brand new hose. It's what they do.

Do check with the dealership first. I can never predict which one will be more expensive.

That is what the /parts is for, salvage is not the place for hoses, steering, and electrical items that I can think of right off. Searching for parts in general. He was asking about a hose, so mentioned it for future help.

The power steering fluid will kill the alternator and I either cover the alternator or remove it as when you disconnect the hose, even with caution it will still leak and get into it. My parts search goes dealer, parts store, salvage, classifieds and then specialty shops.

Purple power. Pressure washer. Rebuild the pump. It really is easy.

Low pressure hoses need to be ATF friendly and you can get the high pressure hose rebuilt locally I bet.

Cool. I think I will rebuild the pump, clean and then see what else is leaking.

There's a type of ink that glows when under ultra-violet light. I've seen it used to find oil leaks. You just put some in your power steering reservoir, run the truck, and the leak will shine bright green under the light. Works with oil leaks, coolant leaks, and others.
