87 4runner Blown Head Gasket
87 4runner
4cyl 22re
275,xxx miles
I am pretty sure I blew the head gasket..oil is a little "Chocolate Milk" looking and it overheated on me on a long trip..
Really I just want to know if anyone has had to repair this and give me any tips or anything I should know..

As many miles as it has and as beautiful as that truck is, I'd give it a high quality brand spanking new rebuild with the best parts my wallet could possibly afford. I've only torn that far into a 22r but they are pretty simple. In fact I did the head gasket and timing chain on that engine in an 84 4Runner with directions I found on yotatech. Take your time and get high quality parts. I got mine from Engnbldr and was more than happy with the kit.
The biggest tips I can offer are A: Get a torque wrench B: Make a cardboard template of the timing chain cover because there are different size bolts and they are relatively easy to mix up and very random from what I remember C: Take your time, check, re-check and triple check everything you do even if you have to walk into the house to check you desktop computer every single time. If you think it'll take 4 hours, give yourself 24 lol.
I can work on vehicles but tearing into the actual engine without a good experienced eye babysitting me has always intimidated me but the HG wasn't so bad. I wish you luck sir and that is a beautiful $runner!
