87 22rte pickup stiff suspension

I have a 87 22rte pickup that has a 4 inch suspension lift
with stiff suspension and it is rattles and is an extremely bumpy ride when on a bumpy road. I'm new to owning a toyota and was wondering if anyone had some suggestions as to what I should do. Thanks.

My guess is that you have blocks in the rear and cranked torsion bars in the front. Both of those will negatively affect the ride.

I think too that the pickups are a bit jouncy when the bed is empty. It's so light that it moves around a lot and makes the suspension seem stiff. I know that mine seems to handle speed bumps a lot better with a bit of weight back there.

Yes I the torsion bars are cranked up and I do have blocks in the back. I know I can loosed the torsion bars but what can I use in the rear instead of lift blocks?

You can get new springs that have lift built into them or spring hangers that are longer. You do not want to go too high with the spring hangers, as it will start to mess with the angle of the axle in relation to the driveshaft (the pinion angle).

A popular mod is to mount 63 inch Chevy springs. It provides a lot of advantages with the main disadvantage being needing to fabricate new spring mounts.
